Sarah's Next Charity Trip [nepal]
Why Nepal? Why now?
Quite a few people have asked me why I’ve signed up for a charity trek through the Himalayas this November, so I thought I’d answer.
For the last couple of years, I’ve been fortunate enough to take part in charity trips to Uganda. They’ve been some of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and I knew I wanted to do something similar again.
This year, when I heard about A Sonic Adventure Nepal, it felt like the perfect opportunity. One of the expedition leaders is the most amazing lady, Emily. Someone I know and trust completely, so I knew it would be an incredible adventure with an even more incredible cause behind it.
If I’m honest, what excites me most is the adventure itself.
I love seeing new places, pushing myself and saying yes to experiences I’d never otherwise have. Without this trip, I doubt I’d ever find myself trekking through the Himalayas to one of the highest glacial lakes in the world or celebrating under the world’s highest full moon. They’re the sort of once-in-a-lifetime moments that you simply can’t recreate.
Am I nervous? Absolutely.
Anyone who knows me knows I hate being cold, so that’s definitely not filling me with excitement! 😂 And whilst I keep myself fit, I’m also realistic enough to know I’m not getting any younger, and I have a few aches and niggles that could make the trekking a real challenge. But I also know that the best adventures usually start just outside your comfort zone.
More than anything, though, it’s the reason behind the trek that matters.
As a mum, I’ve always believed in encouraging my daughter Bella to be independent, believe in herself and chase whatever future she wants. Every girl deserves that opportunity, but sadly, not every girl gets it.
The funds we’re raising will support the Girls’ Empowerment Programme in Nepal, helping vulnerable girls who are at risk of being trafficked, exploited or forced into slavery. Through education, counselling, mentoring and vocational training, the programme gives them the opportunity to build safer, brighter and more independent futures.
I’m paying for my place on the expedition myself, which means every penny donated goes directly to the charity and the girls who need it most.
I need to raise £2000 in total.
If you’d like to support me, I’d be incredibly grateful.
Now… I suppose I’d better start practising walking uphill in the cold! 💙
