[NeoGen] Advanced Training

On the 17th March, I completed advanced NeoGen training alongside two lovely colleagues, Emma & Effie, who also offer NeoGen Plasma in their clinics.

This training focused on working at higher plasma energy levels, taking results to the next level for the right patient.

I can confirm… this is not for the faint-hearted! And just to add, I went straight in without numbing cream (not that I’m bragging or anything 😜).

We all chose to be models for each other, because we strongly believe in experiencing treatments ourselves. It’s the only way we can truly understand what it feels like, how it looks, and what the healing journey involves, so we can guide our patients honestly and safely.

Now, this approach is not for everyone. Until now, I’ve taken a more progressive, less aggressive route, typically working in a course of three treatments, starting low and building to medium energy. For many of you, this will still be the best and safest option.

However, for those who are medically suitable, with no contraindications, a one-off high energy treatment is now a potential option, offering more intensive results in a single session.

As always, this would be carefully assessed and discussed during consultation to ensure it’s the right choice for you.

Below is a picture diary of my recovery, but first, here it is in words!

This is not to put you off having a high energy treatment, more to be totally transparent with you, as always.

My NeoGen High Energy Experience

Treatment Day (Day 0)

I won’t sugarcoat it… the treatment was spicy 🌶️🌶️🌶️

It felt like hot elastic bands flicking against the skin. I tolerated it (just about!) and that was without numbing cream, which, of course, I would always use for you.

Immediately after, my skin felt very sunburnt. That heat sensation lasted a few hours, which is completely normal.

Day 1

Visually, it didn’t look as dramatic as I expected, more blotchy than uniformly red.

However, it was very sensitive to touch. I chose not to cleanse and instead just rinsed with tepid water, followed by a barrier cream to protect my skin and SPF on exposed areas like the neck.

Day 2

The redness deepened into darker patches, and the sensitivity was still quite noticeable.

It wasn’t painful as such; I didn’t need pain relief, but it was very tender to touch, and even clothing felt irritating.

I cleansed today to remove the barrier cream… I won’t lie; it wasn’t comfortable, but manageable.

Day 4

Skin became very dry and cracked in appearance, with lots of flaking. Barrier cream became my best friend during this phase.

Day 6

A real turning point.

My neck looked almost back to normal, sensitivity had settled, and I felt like I was on the home straight.

Day 10

I reintroduced active skincare (Vitamin C) and my décolletage did not like it. The skin developed little bumps and became quite itchy, so I returned to gentle, nourishing skincare and this quickly resolved.

It was a useful reminder, because I would advise patients having high-energy treatments to wait a full two weeks before reintroducing active skincare such as Vitamin C, retinol, and exfoliants, to help avoid this happening.

Day 12

No one would know I have had anything done, but if you look closely, I do still have some light pink, blotchy areas. This is completely normal and, as long as I continue with consistent skincare, it will resolve.

After all, it was only 12 days ago that I had my skin blasted with lots of heat. Skin is an amazing organ. I can’t believe the difference from day 5, when it was at its worst, to now.

The real difference in my neck will come 6 months from now. I am seeing the early signs of 'turkey neck' and that is why I wanted to have the high energy treatment with NeoGen. To nip that little bugger in the bud! However, I can already see that the majority of my Poikiloderma of Civatte (see above!) has dramatically improved!

I will post before & after pictures to show this once I am fully healed, so stay tuned!

What is Poikiloderma of Civatte?

A chronic sun damage condition that shows up as:

  • Redness (vascular component)

  • Brown pigmentation (melanin)

  • Sometimes a slightly “mottled” or lace-like appearance

Typically sits on:

  •  Sides of the neck

  • Often spares the area under the chin (classic sign)

What causes it?

It’s basically a perfect storm of:

  • UV exposure ☀️

  • Photosensitising fragrances (perfume on the neck is a big one) 🌸

  • Chronic skin ageing / damage ⏳

Perfume contains compounds that can react with UV → triggering pigment + vascular damage over time.

If only I knew back then what I know now!

The moral of this story is avoid spraying perfume on your neck and exposing yourself to UV rays!

To book a NeoGen consultation, click on the link below. But please remember, we are entering the warmer months. You cannot be actively tanning 3 weeks before or for 3 weeks after treatment, and you will have to be committed to that if you have treatment during the summer months. A consultation can still be carried out ready to start your treatment during Autumn/Winter.
