thread vein removal

what is thread vein removal?

Thread veins, also referred to as spider veins, are an extremely common problem that affects 88% of women and 79% of men. Thread veins are regular veins, but they are visible as they grow to a much larger size than regular veins.

Please note that we only treat thread veins on the face.

  • Medically known as Telangiectasia, thread veins become visible as the small blood vessels become dilated. Thread veins normally appear slightly red in colour, but depending on size they can look purple or sometimes even green.

Thread veins cause no pain and are not medically required to be removed. However, some people opt for laser removal treatment as they consider them undesirable.

Laser treatment heats up the veins very quickly, causing them to collapse in on themselves and disappear from sight. Depending on the size of the vein you may need more than one session. All details will be discussed within a free consultation.

causes of thread veins

  • Many people who have thread veins also have family members who suffer. Thread veins caused through genetics are more commonly found in women.

  • As we age our valves become weaker, so you are more likely to develop leg thread veins as you get older.

  • Thread veins are found in both women and men. However, thread veins are more commonly found in women.

  • Pregnancy can cause thread veins, due to increased blood moving through the body as well as the extra weight placed on the legs.

  • Thread veins are caused most commonly by the above but can also be caused due to:

    • Weight

    • Hormones

    • Standing for long periods of time

    • Crossing your legs too often
