learn about Botox ® treatment

Botulinum toxin, (commonly referred to as Botox ®) is a protein used to treat certain medical muscular conditions, it is also one of the most popular, safe and effective wrinkle smoothing treatments in the world. It works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to muscle groups so that they become more relaxed and in turn this reduces, or in some cases eliminates, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Botox ® anti wrinkle treatment is commonly used to treat frown lines, crows feet, forehead lines, nefertiti neck line, excessive sweating, smokers lines, down turned corners of the mouth and teeth grinding.

  • Botulinum toxin should be administered by a medical professional as it is very important to get the right dose in the right area to avoid asymmetrical results, muscle drooping, frozen expressions and potentially dangerous circumstances.

Botox Treatment

Whilst we predominantly use Botox® by Allergen, we can also prescribe Azzalure by Galderma on request.

more details

  • It is a legal requirement to carry out a face to face consultation prior to treatment. This is to discuss your areas of concern, your medication & medical history, and the potential complications that can arise. Our nurse prescriber Sarah Diamond will ascertain whether it is safe to prescribe your treatment of Botox ® based on your consultation and if so, a prescription will be written for you and a date for treatment will then be made; this can be as soon as 2 days post consultation.

  • On the day of the Botox® treatment, pre-treatment photographs will be taken for your medical notes, your skin will be prepared with an anti-bacterial/anti-viral cleansing solution. The area for treatment will be assessed and you will be asked to use your muscles (frown, smile, raise your eyebrows) so that we can mark up the muscles to be treated. The Botox® will then be administered; this is usually quite a quick procedure.

  • Following the Botox® treatment, you will be given both verbal and written after-care to take home and a review appointment will be made for between 2-4 weeks post-treatment date.

Your journey does not end there. SKINLAB is committed to excellent patient care, we are available for you to contact at any time post-procedure. Contact numbers will be given to you.

Top ups of Botox® will only be given at review if clinically indicated, and that decision will be made by the treating nurse, Sarah Diamond.

Botox ® Results

Due to the strict advertising rules on prescription-only medicines, we are unable to show before and after pictures of anti-wrinkle injection results on this website.

The initial effects usually show by day 5 and continue to improve for the next 2 weeks. Botox® usually lasts 3-4 months on average, although you can expect a small amount of movement return at week 8 post treatment. Fine lines that do not disappear in the first 2 weeks will often continue to soften over the coming months. Those that don’t can often be improved with dermal filler. Botox® also helps prevent the development of new lines. Most people need treatment every 4 months or so to get the best long term results.
